American Women! This is your last chance…

August 29, 2008

Following John McCain’s inspired choice of Governor Sarah Palin as his choice for Vice-President, Thee women of America have one last chance in this election to make real history by electing a woman into the White House. The Democrats rejected the credentials of Hillary Clinton, a woman with a packed political resumé, in favour of the usual Washington insider and old boy, Joe Biden.

Barack Obama’s supporters have already dismissed Palin as unsuitable seeing as, in their words, she is only a ‘heartbeat away’ from being President, when McCain becomes President. Inadvertently, they are providing another reason for Hillary supporters to support McCain – Palin will be in an elected position as close to the Presidency as any female has ever been. The experience of being VP will certainly mean she will be a frontrunner for future campaigns.

America has the chance to elect a woman who could go all the way to the top, Thatcher-like, and, in doing so, transform American and world politics forever.

Great pick, McCain!

McCain’s VP Choice – Be the Maverick!

August 28, 2008

An announcement about McCain’s VP choice is expected at any time today. While I was not the biggest fan of Romney during the Primaries, his economic expertise and, more importantly, his clear relish at tackling his foes make him a choice I would not be too unhappy with.

I think McCain should go for Joe Lieberman, however, to prove once again that he will not toe the line and play party politics. While Lieberman is not exactly a fave with many Dems, he would undoubtedly attract many of the alienated and disillusioned Hillary supporters.

Great ‘Debra‘ highlighting what many Hillary supporters will be considering…

Obama’s Not Ready

Thought-provoking video from McCain camp – Remote Control. This election is about who will be an effective leader in a dangerous world. Only McCain is ready to fill the role of Commander-in-Chief.

Obama’s Triumphalism Leads to Downfall

August 28, 2008

Seeing the “Temple of Obama” being created in Denver ahead of Obama’s address to the DNC this evening, I was reminded of a similarly over-confident Labour Party event in Sheffield, UK, in 1992. Labour ‘could not’ lose the election against a Conservative Party, of whom the UK public had wearied; and yet, lose they did. Post mortems suggested Neil Kinnock’s air of victory and the scenes of triumphant celebrations at their convention were among the chief reasons for the Labour Party’s defeat. In the UK, the scenes had been compared to something out of 1930s Germany.

Obama is on that same slippery path.

Here the video of Sheffield 1992 on a blog I found during a general search on this topic.
